Night Shelter for the Street Citizens

An Award Winning Project (PAM Award and The Edge Malaysia Green Excellent Award)

This project is a purposeful initiative by Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang to target the issue of roaming vagrants around Georgetown. Aiming to provide a new ray of hope for the homeless community in the form of a transit center that provides warm meals and temporary shelter, the building and landscape are designed with spaces for training, learning and working to help this marginalised group gain skills for improving their livelihood. Its primary goal is to empower homeless individuals with skills and resources that will enable them to secure employment and eventually find permanent housing through public housing projects.

As a public service initiative, the shelter is open to the wider community to demystify the general preconception about street citizens. It is also designed to achieve GBI Platinum to instill awareness amongst the public on the importance of reducing carbon footprint and consumption of resources.

Eventually, the success of the project leads to a healthier community and enhance the city images.
